Your hearing is important

Good hearing is an important part of your quality of life. Good hearing helps you lead an active life, feel more comfort and self-confidence, even in the presence of a large group or in a noisy place. Also, good hearing helps in the continuous stimulation of the brain.

Shpjegimi i Audiogrames

Hearing loss is measured in four degrees.

Mild, moderate, severe, or profound. The degree of hearing loss guides the choice of the best form of treatment on a case-by-case basis.

Each section helps move sound through the hearing process. When a sound occurs, the outer ear feeds it through the ear canal to the eardrum. The noise causes the eardrum to vibrate. This, in turn, causes three tiny bones inside the middle ear (malleus, incus, stapes) to move. This movement travels to the inner ear (cochlea), where it causes tiny hairs to move in a fluid. These hairs convert the movement into auditory signals, which are then transmitted to the brain to register the sound.

Types of hearing loss

1

Conductive Hearing Loss

Caused by conditions that block the transmission of sound through the outer ear and the eardrum into the middle ear.

2

Sensorineural Hearing Loss

Inner ear damage that occurs as part of the natural aging process.

3

Mixed Hearing Loss

Mixed hearing loss refers to people who have both conductive and sensorineural hearing loss. Most people experience more than one type of hearing loss.

Your hearing is important.

Hearing loss is associated with potential health risks and obstacles in experiencing daily life as you would if you had normal hearing.

Negative Emotions

Negative Emotions

Hearing loss can cause many different negative emotions, whether due to the feeling of anxiety that you will miss important information or the embarrassment of not being able to hear your family members when they speak.

Social Isolation

Social Isolation

Hearing loss has been identified as a significant risk factor for social isolation, brain atrophy, and the development of dementia, especially in older adults.

Social Activities

Social Activities

Living with untreated hearing loss can increase the level of distress toward things that were once simple everyday activities.

Understanding Hearing Loss

Even simple conversations can be very exhausting for people with hearing loss. Following conversations with multiple participants requires intensive effort. Active communication is difficult, which can quickly lead to social isolation. Hearing loss can have many causes, but in most cases, it can be successfully treated.

Take the first step

Assess your own hearing

When watching television with others, do you need to increase the volume while others can hear clearly?

Do you often have to ask people to repeat what they have said?

A keni shpesh ndjenjën se njerëzit tjerë flasin me “murmuritje” apo paqartë?

During conversations in a car, at a restaurant, or any other noisy place, do you often misunderstand what others have said?

Do you often have trouble hearing and understanding what other people are saying when you do not have eye contact with them?

Do you feel stressed or tired when you have to converse or listen for long periods?

Hearing Loss Treatments

The location, type, and degree of hearing loss influence the choice of treatments for any hearing problem. The most common treatment options include:

Antibiotics

Antibiotics, decongestants, and pain relievers to overcome ear infections

Myringotomy

A piercing of the eardrum to allow fluids to drain from the middle ear. Inserting a tube into the eardrum to keep it open and allow for normal fluid drainage. This technique may be recommended for people who experience frequent ear infections.

Hearing Aids

If you have hearing loss, your life can significantly improve if you use hearing aids. Today, hearing aids are advanced microprocessors that are tailored to your personal needs.

Surgery

Surgery to remove benign or malignant tumors or to correct bone or nerve-related problems

A është humbja e dëgjimit gjithmonë e dukshme?
What is an audiogram?
A ndihmojnë aparatet e dëgjimit në jetën e përditshme?
Po.
